Ernő TILLAI

1927, Pécs

He received his degree in architecture at the Technical University of Budapest in 1950. He completed the photography programme of the Association of Hungarian Photographers in 1958; his masters were Jenő Elekfy, Simon Hantai and Ernő Vadas. From the 1960s onwards he had several solo exhibitions in Budapest, Vienna, Graz and other places. He won the distinction Master Photographer of FIAP in 1962. He organised the exhibition titled 125 Years of Hungarian Photographic Art in 1966. He was the head of the Senior Artists’ Group from 1998 to 2011. He received the life achievement award of the Association of Hungarian Photographers and the Association of Hungarian Creative Artists in 2007. He has been an honorary citizen of Pécs since 2017.
